Many option-income funds pay you mostly return of capital: a cutting from your own bush, not a berry. It isn’t taxed when it lands, but it lowers your cost basis, so the tax waits for the day you sell.
Your brokerage shows the payout. Gooseberry shows what it’s made of, and keeps your real cost basis lot by lot using the issuers’ own tax filings.
SPYI’s Sep 18, 2026 payout was $0.5338 a share. By the issuer’s estimate, 94% of it was return of capital.
